Philip C. Haggerty, known by many as “Bert”, died peacefully with his family by his side on September 22, 2023. He was 69.

Phil was the loving husband of Carol (nee Casey) Haggerty and together they shared 47 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Philip C. Haggerty and Dorothy (nee Noonan) McCaffrey. Phil attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Bishop McDevitt High School, graduating in1972. He went on to lead a 30-year career with UPS as a driver, retiring in 2006. Along the way he made countless friends on his first route in Huntingdon Valley and later in Trevose. He was a familiar and happy face to the many customers he served.

Phil was always a favorite golf partner, putting the Guest in many Member-Guest tournaments. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing down the shore, spending many vacations on the bay in Avalon. He was an avid reader and music lover, especially Steven King and anything with a great horn section. He was a dedicated Philadelphia sports fan, never missing a Phillies or Eagles game. Following his retirement, he found great pride in being a jack of all trades, especially skilled in landscaping and painting. He was a proud member of The MacSwiney Club in Jenkintown, where he made many new friends while catching up with the old.

Most of all, Phil will be remembered for his quick wit and incredible sense of humor and for being a sharp dresser, never having a hair out of place. He will be dearly missed by the countless many whose lives he touched.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children, Aileen Haggerty (Erme Maula), Lisa O’Hagan (JP), and Phil Haggerty (Josephine Mustin); his four grandchildren, Delcy, Sadie, Cullen, and Clancy O’Hagan who loved their Friday hangs with Bert; his siblings, Mary Ellen “Mel” McGrath (Brian), Suzanne Wellz (late Dave), and Edward Haggerty (Peggy); as well as countless other relatives and dear friends.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at North Hills Country Club, 99 Station Ave., Glenside, PA 19038 where relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 11:00 AM until his Memorial Service at 12:30 PM and lunch to follow. His interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Glenside Gaelic Club, PO Box 824 Glenside, PA 19038 or www.glensidegaelicclub.comwhere his grandchildren are fostering their love of Irish sports.
